Today we started back up camp for the second week! We were super glad to introduce some new campers to our group and to welcome back the previous week’s campers from the weekend break. Josh preached today on the Prodigal Son and how God is the Father who always has arms open to welcome home His lost children.
We also tried out Solarium cards which are cards with pictures to try and jump-start spiritual conversations. Students are given a pretty open question like, “How would you describe your life right now?” and then chose from a variety of pictures which picture best answers the prompt. After that they give us the reasons why they chose that specific card. The cards created some interesting questions from the campers about deep spiritual ideas.
Today was also the day that campers could invite us to their home for dinner! I was invited to a camper’s house and vineyard. At her house I met her small dog that greatly resembled a sheep. Then we moved on to her vineyard where my mom and I were actually in charge of making the food! We made cherry pastries with fresh cherries from their garden and also we made the classic Hungarian meal of goulash! The food and scenery were amazing and it was an unforgettable experience.
Hearing from the other Chicagoans I believe everyone had a wonderful time with the campers and their families. Please be praying for the students to continue asking questions and continue to pray for the health and energy of our team as we continue in this week of camp. Thanks so much for all your prayers and support up to this point!
I pray all continues to go well, and friends are met, and Christ is received by many.
Maggie, 2 weeks! Tell Josh that his Palatine neighbor Mike Dixon said Hi. I will pray for my prodigal neighbor and welcome him when he returns from the far country. Ha!
Seriously, we are so excited about what God is doing through you all.
We’re happy that you get some fun times together. “The joy of the Lord is your strength” says Nehemiah. Your gospel conversations WILL bear fruit in the hearts of the hearers. God’s word will not return to him without accomplishing his purposes. (Maggie, 2weeks! Tell Josh didn’t his neighbor Mike Dixon said Hi.
