Our first week continues in Durrës, Albania. As we finish up our fourth day of camp, I am reminded: God never sends us where His grace does not follow. The Lord is drawing people to Himself and we have seen further glimpses of that yesterday and today. It is truly sweet to be a part of gospel mission. As we minister along the Via Egnatia, it is striking to proclaim the gospel to many ears who have never heard! Camp has drawn 40 kids full of energy and laughter. I am grateful for the kids’ desire to be here with us in this precious church.
We share in the universal language of a smile, and seeing these smiles each day has been a gift of grace from the Lord as we aim to expend ourselves for the gospel. As the team welcomes, cheers and gives high-fives to every camper who enters the church we see them light up with joy for the day ahead! What a gift – to have excited campers in a gospel-proclaiming, local church in the second largest city of Albania! What a gift – to hear campers sing at the top of their lungs truths about God and His Word. What a gift – to see the smiles on the church leaders’ faces as camp continues.
So far, we have had the joy and undeserved privilege to teach the children the following lessons: What is the Bible?, What is sin?, Who is Jesus?, What is Faith? Yesterday’s lesson was packed full as the children heard about Jesus Christ as a baby, in ministry, during the transfiguration and at the cross. Good news of great joy for all people (Luke 2:10). God came down to live the life we could never live and die the death we deserve so that we might be saved. Today’s lesson spoke of Noah and the ark. This vivid story of sin and faith gave us the opportunity to teach clearly our own personal need for Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior from our sin through faith.
I praise the Lord for translation and for many who know both English and Albanian (and heard the gospel twice)! May He establish the work of our hands, to which He has called each of us for such a time as this. Great is His faithfulness.
- For our eyes to be fixed on Christ, the founder and perfecter of our faith! (Heb. 12:2)
- For the hearts of campers to be softened and prepared for the gospel seed! May many comes to a saving faith that lasts in Christ alone by grace alone through faith alone! (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)
- For the name of Jesus Christ to be proclaimed throughout Durrës, Albania (Acts 28:31)
for Him and by Him,
