Tapolca Team – Teen Camp Week 1 Day 4 – Morgan

Today was an amazing day at camp!  Sometimes it is easy to become discouraged when students do not seem interested in Christ or the Bible.  So, our devotional this morning was on Isaiah 55:11, which reads, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”  It can be hard to see, but God’s got this.  He will use us in any way he chooses.  That is extremely encouraging.

English classes are going really well!  Today, my intermediate class expanded their vocabulary on cowboys.  We started out playing hangman as an icebreaker.  We made them use their bodies to create the shape of the letter that they were guessing.  The students seemed to enjoy it once they started getting into it.  We then moved on to vocabulary. Abi and I have 17 students in our class, so we had to split into two groups.  Over the past few days, the students have increasing become more engaged and intrigued by vocabulary, which is fantastic!

The second session was a hit from our students!  My class is participating in a talent show tomorrow.  We taught them a dance to the song “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex.  The students were apprehensive at first, so Abi and I made a fool out of ourselves to get them more comfortable.  By the end of class, they ended up loving it!  They were even doing it in their free time!

Dillon preached a sermon on James 1:22-27 during chapel today.  He talked about how God’s law are the commands for His people.  It is perfect because it comes from Him.  God’s law shows us what we, as believers, are supposed to look like.  Dillon discussed the two responses people may have to this.  People can either hear and not act on it, or hear and act on it.  By acting on it, Christ changes you.

My small group is very quiet.  Krista and I were not able to get the students to share their thoughts, questions, or opinions.  Even though the students are not talking as much as we would like, we pray that the Lord is still working in their hearts.

As always, the students really enjoyed game time.  They got to play on of their favorites, capture the flag, for the second day in a row.  After the games, we had the opportunity to Skype with Pastor Josh.  A lot of the students have missed him, and I know he misses them as well.  The students really enjoyed getting to see his smiling face again.

This week has been incredible so far!  I cannot believe the first week is almost over.  The Lord is definitely working here.  Please pray for the students to have open hearts to what the bible says. Also pray for us leaders to have energy, as we are all tired.

  1. Morgan, this report is extremely encouraging to me! I have shared the gospel with a couple with issues. I have to trust Isaiah 55:11
These students sound amazing, and highly motivated.
You stand on biblical ground when you say that Abi and you made fools out of yourselves. The apostle Paul talked about that being a good thing! First Corinthians 4.10
I wouldn’t worry too much about the small group being quiet. Some folks are just that way, and “silence is golden.” That’s when the Holy Spirit speaks.
What a wise idea- Skyping with Pastor Josh! That will bring back a lot of helpful material and memories in their hearts.
Tired! I’m sure you know this one, “I labor for this, striving with his strength that works powerfully in me.”
Colossians 1:29 Be strong in his power. Philippians 4.13
