As the first day of English camp approached, anticipation was at an all-time high. The Tapolca team arrived at our quarters around 10:15 Sunday night. After we unpacked and settled in, we all headed to bed only to be surprised by the local bell tower’s annoying ringing every fifteen minutes. Eventually we all calmed down and got our rest. In the morning the team had breakfast and prepared for the day. We then did devotions that prepared our team for the day and what God had in store for us. The kids started arriving at camp early and were eager to begin. We started off with an ice breaker game of “Ninja” in the park down the road from the town hall in which we are staying and doing most activities. Afterwards we regrouped and the students were assigned to their English teaching groups. We had one session before a snack of Balaton bars and one after. We then went and worshipped in the multi-purpose room. We sang songs in English and then one song in Hungarian, some sang loudly while some just listened. Our goal is to have everyone involved and feel more comfortable during worship. Josh spoke on the first part of the “Lord, Sin, Savior, Faith” series, which is Lord. He talked about Genesis 1 and how powerful God is to have created the world. We are so thankful that God has given us the opportunity to help start up a camp here and also be able to share His word with the people of Hungary and especially the area of Tapolca. After worship, the students broke out into conversation groups to discuss what they had just heard. Lunch was served following the discussions which consisted of soup and a dish that contained noodles, cottage cheese, and powdered sugar. The noodles is a typical Hungarian dish which is loved by all of the students. Next up, one of the most exciting parts of the day, games! We played blob tag and another variation of tag; the kids seem to love any game that involves moving around a lot. We would have another game time later but first we had another small group time where two team members were matched up with five to six campers and we just asked random questions and had awesome talks. Back at games we played” Steal the Bacon” which got crazy! Bodies were flying everywhere and everyone got into it which was exciting to see, especially on the first day. It was the end of a long day at camp and it was time for the campers to head home.
The Tapolca team changed into our swim gear and headed up to Lake Balaton for an evening at the beach. The view was gorgeous and the water was refreshing. With temperatures up in the high 80’s and low 90’s, it felt nice to cool off in the lake. There were also many food options from which to choose from. We then went to Tesco (huge supermarket) and purchased supplies for our stay and some supplies for personal interests of course (sweets). Then the team arrived back at our lodgings and settled back in again. We’re excited for the work the Lord has yet for us to do! For more updates from the Tapolca team make sure to stay tuned in and up to date. Thank you for the prayers for our team and all of the support! We appreciate each bit of it. God bless, goodnight!
